Colombo (News1st): President Maithripala Sirisena reiterated in Matara today (Jan 30) that he will strictly implement the law against drug traffickers. Speaking at an event held he noted that people who distribute or use harmful drugs will be executed on the electric chair or granted death penalty. He noted that he saw criticisms regarding this program on television, print media and social media adding that it is clear these are the people connected to drug smuggling. The president went onto note that he will, however, hand down the death penalty to those court finds guilty of drug-related offences. The president expressed these views speaking at the Mathin Nidhas Ratak Matara District conference. Official badges were pinned on Coordinators of the drug prevention campaigns in the District's schools, and four district drug prevention committees were also felicitated at the event. The President also donated funds for the activities of the Drug prevention research unit at the Ruhuna University.
