COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lankan law enforcement authorities have seized 1.059 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine (commonly known as "ICE") during a high-intensity search operation conducted in Wellampitiya, as part of a broader crackdown on narcotics and organized crime across the Western Province.
The operation, which took place yesterday, was coordinated by the Sri Lanka Police, in collaboration with the Special Task Force (STF), Sri Lanka Army, and Navy, and targeted multiple high-risk zones including Mount Lavinia, Moratuwa, Hanwella, Kegalle, Seethawakapura, Embilipitiya, and Ratnapura.
Authorities confirmed that several individuals were taken into custody for their involvement in drug trafficking and other illegal activities.
The Ministry of Public Security stated that these operations are part of a national anti-narcotics initiative aimed at eradicating drug networks and underworld activity from Sri Lanka.
Officials emphasized that similar search operations will be conducted island-wide in the coming months.
