Route loss of Rs 4.5bn for SriLankan between 2013 and 2015

COLOMBO(News 1st) - SriLankan airlines and Mattala International Airport had incurred a total route loss of USD 30.6 million, approximately Rs. 4.5 billion, between 2013 and 2015. This was brought to light at the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into Irregularities at SriLankan Airlines, Sri Lankan Catering and Mihin Lanka, today(January 29). Between 2013 and 2015, Sri Lankan incurred approximately USD 14 million, due to regular flights handling at Mattala international airport. Mattala International Airport also incurred a further loss of USD 3.94 million due to the services it rendered to Sri Lankan aircraft. Head of Revenue Management, Planning and Commercial at SriLankan airlines, Sumudu Upatissa told the commission, that within this period SriLankan had operated 150 regular flights to Mattala, all resulting in massive losses to the airlines.
