"India is a key economic partner of Sri Lanka" - Min. Kabir Hashim

Colombo (News1st): A celebration to mark the 70th Indian Republic day was held at the India House organized by the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka. The Chief Guest of the event was Minister of Highways & Road Development and Petroleum Resources Development Kabir Hashim. Yesterday (January 26) marked the 70th Republic Day of India as well as the 150th birth anniversary of the leader of the Indian independence movement Mahatma Gandhi. The reception also saw the participation of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, Ministers, MPs, Ambassadors, Diplomats, and several other dignitaries. Speaking at the event Minister Kabir Hashim noted that India is a key economic partner of Sri Lanka as many MOU's have been signed by both countries. He added that the support extended by the government of India, for the economic growth, prosperity and social progress of Sri Lanka is much appreciated. Hashim went on to note that India and Sri Lanka also enjoy a strong defense partnership and the 5th annual defense dialogue held in New Delhi in January 2018, reached a successful conclusion.
