Colombo (News1st) – Deputy Speaker Ananda Kumarasiri noted that the report compiled by the committee that was appointed to investigate the unruly behavior that occurred within the parliament chamber is to be handed over to the speaker today (January 22). The Deputy speaker further stated that the investigative report is to be turned over to the Attorney General by the Speaker.
The Speaker is to get the Attorney General’s advice on the future course of action that should be taken against the MPs that have been implicated in the report. According to Kumarasiri the report has implicated members of the UPFA, UNP and the JVP for their unruly behavior.
The Speaker recently appointed a committee led by the Deputy Speaker in order to investigate the unruly situation that took place in parliament on the 15th 16th and 17th of last November.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Speaker also revealed that the Chairpersons for a number of select committees including COPE and COPA are due to be named today when the members appointed to the committees gather for their first session.
