A new hotline to lodge complaints on drugs and organized crime

COLOMBO (News 1st): President Maithripala Sirisena has introduced a new hotline -1984- to lodge complaints relating to drugs, narcotics, and organized crime. The President made this announcement at the ceremony to mark the commencement of the National drug prevention week today (January 21). The drug prevention week will be in effect from 21st to the 28th of January - while the drug prevention week for all schools will be in effect till the 25th. The scholarship enrollment week ceremony was carried out at the Mullaitivu Vidyanandan College with the participation of 150,000 students making a pledge at the morning assembly. The 1984 hotline, which was introduced at the occasion, is now open for students to make any complaints relating to drug issues and organized crime connected to it. Events were also held to commemorate the President handing over funds to repair eleven schools which are affected by the floods in the Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu districts, along with another thirteen that saw them lose their facilities for water. President and the Army Commander also released a total of 264 acres of public and private land in the Mannar, Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu districts, and another 1099 acres belonging to 4 paddy fields to the people.
