CID begins interrogation of suspects in possession of 100kg of explosives

Colombo (News1st): The four men who were arrested with 100 kilograms of explosives in Wanathavilluwa, Puttalam are being interrogated under detention orders. The Criminal Investigations Department carried out a search operation with the assistance of the Police Special Task Force after it was tipped off, that a person who was involved in harming Buddha Statues in Mawanella recently, was in hiding in a coconut estate in Wanathavilluwa. Police said, 04 men between the ages of 20 to 25 years were arrested at the site where the raid took place. Three barrels containing approximately 100 kilograms of explosives and 06 barrels of Nitric Acid were discovered following a search of the property. In addition; 99 detonators, an air-rifle, a 12 bore shotgun, 07 bullets, 07 bullet casings, 02 tents, a digital camera, a laptop, several books printed in Tamil and Arabic, a VISA document and several other materials were recovered from the property. Police said among the arrested is the son of the property owner. Today, the CID led the investigations on the recovered explosives. Police said, as per the instructions of the Ministry of Defence the suspects are being interrogated under a 90-day detention order.
