Colombo (News 1st) -Trade unions accuse that the Ministry of Education has not taken any measure regarding substandard buildings in schools.
Secretary of Sri Lanka Teachers’ Union Joseph Stalin stated that the ministry had earlier called for a report regarding the substandard buildings.
When inquired Secretary to the Ministry of Education Padmasiri Jayamanne, stated that discussions will be held regarding the issue with the director general of buildings.
Jayamanne further noted that steps will be taken to inform Zonal Educational Directors to look into such substandard buildings within school premises.
A 16-year-old schoolboy died after a concrete pillar in a construction site fell on to his head while at his school, in the Palagala area in Anuradhapura
