COLOMBO (News 1st) – The Consumer Affairs Authority has disclosed details on a stock of milk unsuitable for human consumption re-entering the market.
The information was revealed following a raid conducted in a storeroom in Hettipola, Kuliyapitiya.
Assistant Director of the Authority, A. A. Jasoor noted that the said stock of milk that had been put aside due to its expiration was later purchased by a businessman through a tender for dairy products. The businessman had then attempted to change the expiry dates of the dairy products and distribute it to the market.
The stock of milk unsuitable for human consumption weighs over 100 metric tonnes.
The suspect who was arrested by the Authority was released on a bond following interrogations. He is due to be presented before the Kuliyapitiya Magistrates Court next Friday (January 18).
