Open warrant re-issued for Jaliya Wickremesuriya

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Fort Magistrate's Court re-issued an open warrant for the arrest of Former Sri Lankan Ambassador to the United States of America Jaliya Wickremesuriya. The Magistrate once again issued warrants for the arrest of Jaliya Wickremesuriya’s wife and relative who signed for his bail application. The case was heard before Fort acting Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage. The warrant was issued on the charges of allegedly misusing state funds worth USD 132,000 during his tenure as the Ambassador. Earlier he was held in remand custody on the same charges and released on bail by the High Court. The former ambassador who is believed to be in USA flew overseas for the purpose of receiving medical treatment. The FCID informed courts that measures have been taken to repatriate Jaliya Wickremesuriya to Sri Lanka under extradition laws.
