1. The
Speaker reiterated his
decision that
UPFA MP Mahinda Rajapaksa is the
opposition leader.
2. The
cabinet approval was granted for the
2019 appropriation bill. The sum allocated for
repayment of debt for the year is
Rs. 2200 billion.
3. The
Civil Aviation Authority in a release states that the
aircraft which departed from
China Bay had obtained all
required approval. However,
section 34 of the Immigration and Emigration act states that no person to whom this part applies
shall leave Sri Lanka from any place other than an
approved port of departure.
4. The
special committee appointed to investigate the
unruly behavior in parliament from the
14th - 16th of November 2018 that led to a
damage of public property is due to
convene at 9.30 a.m.

Western province health department stated that all
rural hospitals of the
Western province will be provided with
laboratory facilities within the year.

Two people have been
arrested over an
attempt to obtain a
bribe of Rs. 3.5 million in
Homagama.

Parliament is due to convene at
1.00 p.m. today (January 09).
8. The
Ceylon Teachers Union charge that the
teacher's handbooks for the
year 2019 have
not been handed over as yet.
9. The
Department of Motor traffic has extended the
carbon tax payment period until the end of 2019.
10. The
Ministry of Education has received
cabinet approval to increase the
benefits of the Suraksha insurance. The
daily allowance given to a child at the
time of hospitalization has
increased from
Rs. 1000 to Rs. 3000.
