Colombo (News 1st) - Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thero convened a media briefing in Colombo today. Ven. Thero explained matters pertaining to the acquisition of a floating liquefied natural gas storage platform. The thero noted that there is a doubt whether the cabinet approved the acquisition of such a platform adding that CEB has already issued a tender, which ends this month, regarding this platform. The thero explained that the "swiss challenge" model which was adopted for this procurement is one which benefits the businessmen and not the state. Ven. Rathana thero stated that they suspect that the purpose of the tender is to engage in an underhanded deal. The thero went onto note that while the lifespan of this ship is twenty years, it can provide 4 times the natural gas requirements of the country. He questioned as to why such a decision was taken to purchase such a large platform.
