0.01% of GDP allocated for research

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Non-cabinet Minister of Science, Technology, and research, Sujeewa Senasinghe notes that it is only 0.01% of the country's economy that is allocated for the purpose of research at his Ministry. The Minister at a media briefing held in Colombo yesterday (January 07) said that the research most of the time ends up as another educational qualification instead of being incorporated into the economy of the country. Minister Senasinghe further noted that he hopes to initiate a programme titled Shilpa Sena, similar to the Mahapola fund.
