Smart ID cards to be issued from today

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The issuance of smart identity cards will begin from today (January 01). This was confirmed to News 1st by the Commissioner General of the Department for registration of persons, Viani Gunathilake. A trial program was carried out on the 17th of December to test the smart cards mainly focusing on the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces. The commissioner general further noted that the photos for smart IDs should only be obtained from studios registered under the Department.
