169 mobile phones recovered from prison

Colombo (News 1st)-Raids carried out across prisons around the country recovered a large haul of contraband from inside the prison walls. A Senior Officer attached to the Ministry of Prisons stated that raids were carried out from 3rd of October to 25th December, and 169 mobile phones were recovered by the prison intelligence unit. In addition, 165 mobile sim cards, 134 mobile phone batteries, 31 mobile phone chargers and a 118 small sized drug packets were recovered. A majority of the illegal items were discovered from inside the walls of the Colombo Remand Prison. The ministry official said the mobile phones and sim cards were handed over to the Police Narcotic Bureau for investigations. The Ministry of Prisons further stated that strict action is to be taken to curb the movement of such items.
