Colombo (News1st) - Leader of the National Unity Alliance Azath Salley has accused members of the TNA of ignoring the plight of people affected by adverse weather in the North. Salley noted that that members of the TNA who were elected by the 54,000 people affected by the floods have not visited the affected areas yet to inquire into their well being. He added that this occurs in a backdrop where individuals such as MP M.A. Sumanthiran rushed to advise the UNP and the PM. He added that it is saddening to see such individuals who acted in such a manner during the recent political crisis, not doing the same for the people that have been affected. Meanwhile, members of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) attended a meeting with the Minister of Disaster Management at the Kilinochchi District Secretariat today. Speaking to reporters following the meeting ITAK Leader Mavei Senadhiraja stated that they arrived in the area to look into the plight of the displaced persons. When questioned whether he had actually visited any of the affected areas Senadhiraja stated that he had not and pointed out that MPs from the area that have been affected had already done so. Journalists also questioned TNA MP M.A. Sumanthian about the situation in Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu as he was exiting the meeting. He stated "We only know the information we have received so far," when pressed for a clearer comment the MP stated that he arrived in the area this morning (Dec 24) with the Minister of Disaster Management and that he has to go to the affected areas to see first hand.
