COLOMBO (News 1st) -  A statue was unveiled in Kolonnawa today (December 23) in remembrance of the late Weerasinghe Mallamarachchi who rendered a yeoman service to both the Kolonnawa electorate and the UNP. The event was held under the auspices of UNP deputy leader Sajith Premadasa. A number of MPs including UNP Kolonnawa organizer S.M. Marrikar were present at the occasion. Following the event, the UNP bala mandala meeting for Kolonnawa was held. Speaking at the event, UNP MP, S. M. Marikkar said that he considers unveiling this statue as a great honour. He continued to say that now that they have won over the conspiracies they should first plan on how to win the upcoming elections and then remain in power for the next decade and thereafter consider fixing the mistakes made by them over the past 3.5 years. Marikkar added that although he did not have any ministerial positions or deputy ministerial positions over the years and that although he was not even made the chairman of the development committee in the Colombo district, he can assure the people that he did the most amount of work. The newly appointed Minister of Housing, Construction and Cultural Affairs, Sajith Premadasa dressing the UNP faithful that had gathered stated that they must not waste time, he noted that the UNP has identified its mistakes and it will do what needs to be done. Premadasa reiterated that he will "do the work that needs to be done within the next 10 months" adding that there is no longer any room for corruption, fraud and thuggery
