COLOMBO (News 1st) – The Central Environmental Authority (CEA) confirmed that cases have been filed against 366 illegal producers of polythene, polythene marketers and restaurant owners who made use of illegal polythene products.
The Director of the Investigations Unit at the CEA, N. S. Gamage confirmed that among those arrested, 350 are owners of restaurants while 16 of them produce polythene.
The illegal producers of polythene have been arrested in raids conducted in Colombo, Mathale and Gampaha. A majority of the arrested shop owners are from Kurunegala, Galle, Kaluthara, Gampaha and Colombo.
The director further warned shopkeepers to be cautious about the usage of such illegal polythene. The polythene raids are conducted jointly by the CEA and the Consumer Affairs Authority.
