Two Navy personnel arrested over abduction of 11 youth, remanded

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The two Navy personnel who was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department over the abduction and assassination of 11 youth from Colombo and its suburbs between 2008 and 2009 have been remanded until the 28th of this month. They were produced before the Fort Magistrates court this evening (December 14). Petty Officer Imbulana - Liyanage Upul Chaminda and Leading Seaman Sanjeewa Senanayake were the two navy personnel who were arrested earlier today (December 14). Petty Officer Upul Chaminda was arrested on the charges of;
  1. Demanding ransom for the release of abductees
  2. Extorting Rs. 500,000 from the wife of an abductee
  3. Extorting Rs. 500,000 from the relatives of an abductee
  4. The murder of 11 abducted men
The other suspect Leading Seaman Sanjeewa Senanayake was charged with  abduction, unlawful detention and aiding murder and conspiracy.
