COLOMBO (News 1st) - At an event held in Colombo, politburo member of the JVP, Lal Kantha commented on the current political situation of the country. He stated that the JVP does not accept the current constitution and that instead, they opt for a new constitution. Lal Kantha continued to say that just like the French revolution took place outside the boundaries of the framework of law and order that Sri Lanka is also at present forming a government which is beyond the country's constitution. Further, he said that both President Maithripala Sirisena and Mahinda Rajapaksa conspired to gain power, by going against the constitution adding that within a matter of days that this conspiracy was defeated. He said that in reality if a majority is not claimed by those appointed, the government would be unable to function. Lal Kantha said that a commission to investigate this conspiracy must be established through parliament and that the conspirators must be summoned before the commission. He continued to say that if so the public must come forward to remove the President from his official residence adding that the support extended by the forces for the cause is uncertain.
"If the forces and the police support the people, things will work out smoothly... If the forces go against the people, there will be bloodshed, leading to a larger crisis"    he added.
