COLOMBO (News 1st): Selvarasa Gajendran, the General Secretary of the Tamil National People's Front revealed the back story which led to the ongoing political crisis in Sri Lanka. Gajendran said that Ranil Wickremesinghe had requested to give the Colombo Port's 'Eastern Container Terminal' to India during a cabinet meeting. He stated that this request angered President Maithripala Sirisena, who said that he will never permit anyone to sell valuable assets of our country. According to Gajendran, India also tried to obtain control of the Palali and Mattala airports and 70 oil tanks in Trincomalee through an agreement. Gajendran revealed that Mahinda Rajapaksa was appointed as the Prime Minister to "put an end to all of this". "Two agreements over the Colombo Port have been established with India even after these events. If we assume that this crisis is a strain between Ranil and Maithri, we all lose." - he added.
