Colombo (News1st): The Supreme Court has ordered Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake to appear in court on the 26th of February 2019 over a Contempt of Court case.
The Judges ordered the Supreme Court registrar to send copies of the notice containing the charges filed against the suspect and a CD containing the conversation said to have been made by him to cause contempt of court, to be handed over to the Attorney General as well as MP Ranjan Ramanayake.
President’s Counsel Faizer Mustapha informed the court that Ranjan Ramanayake was in court today on the information made available by the media and so far he had not been handed over a notice said to have been issued by the court.
Deputy Solicitor General Sanjaya Rajaratnam appearing for the Attorney General pointed out he acted according to the order given by the Supreme Court to take legal action against Ramanayake for making a statement at a media briefing causing contempt of court.
