Colombo (News 1st) – The LGBTQ community and supporters joined a protest at the Lipton Circus titled “Butterflies for Democracy” on Friday (Dec 7).

The protesters stated that everyone is entitled to democracy despite their differences.

Speaking to the media a few of them stated that the message they hope to convey is that even the LGBTQ community needs democracy. They stated that democracy means the protection of rights and freedoms of people of various sexual orientations and cultures.

They stated that the people at the protest are citizens of this country and that they are entitled to political rights in this country. They further stated that the country is being damaged economically, politically and intentionally.
