President's promise to amend the constitution

COLOMBO (News 1st) - President Maithripala Sirisena said that if there are any weaknesses in the 19th amendment to the Constitution that he is committed to making the necessary amendments. Issuing a communique the President's Media Division stated that the 19th amendment to the constitution was passed in order to solve the problems that persisted with our democracy over the past three decades. It adds that the 19th amendment has benefited the country including the establishment of independent commissions and the strengthening of democratic institutions. The communique further noted that the head of state is committed to amending the 19th amendment to resolve the problems with it.
