10 Train Engines & 06 power-sets imported to Sri Lanka

Colombo (News 1st) - The Department of Railways stated that a new train engine and a power-set inclusive of a luxury compartment will be imported to Sri Lanka in a few days. Railways General Manager Dilantha Fernando speaking to News 1st said that this is part of the first phase of the series of Train Engines and Power-Sets ordered from India. The first set will be tested on Sri Lankan tracks and following an evaluation, the rest of the engines are to be imported to Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka currently uses a total of 98 power-sets for daily operations. 90 Train Engines are in operation in Sri Lanka and 13 of them are over 60 years old. 10 Train Engines and 06 power-sets are to be imported into the country.
