Colombo (News1st): The second phase of the series of rallies organized by the United National Front under the theme “Voice of Justice for Democracy” was held in Kaluthara today (November 27).
The rally was joined by party leaders including the UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa.
Speaking at the rally Ranil Wickremesinghe said following the UNP’s defeat at the provincial and municipal council elections, the president had asked him whether he should resign from his position.
Ranil has replied stating that they have already made a statement that they accepted their defeat and that their defeat is a sign indicating the government’s efforts are not enough.
He noted that on the other hand, it was the president and he himself who received the people’s mandate and if they (UNP) were to reject it, they should have made the rejection together.
Ranil Wickremesinghe said that the temporary government is a group of thugs and the existence of such a government is against the people’s mandate.
