UNP calls for an early Presidential election

COLOMBO (News 1st): The 'Sathyagraha' opposite the Colombo Municipal Council continued on its 2nd day today (November 22) under the theme "Let's join to safeguard Democracy". The Sathyagraha saw the participation of several UNP MP's, including Ajith P. Perera. The Sathyagraha was organized by Civil Societies and UNF trade unions. A petition with one million signatures is to be submitted to Speaker requesting the provision of a constitutional solution for the prevailing political crisis. Speaking to the media, UNP MP Ajith P. Perera challenged the President to go for a legal 'Presidential Election' on January 8, if he has confidence in his actions. "The president should contest as a presidential candidate and he must prove the people's mandate. If what he says is correct, the people will appoint him as the president once again." - he added.
