Malwathu Mahanayake calls for Presidential intervention into crisis

Colombo (News1st) - The Mahanayake of the Malwathu Chapter, Most Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thero has requested President Maithripala Sirisena to intervene in this crisis situation, summon Parliament and take an immediate decision to solve the crisis. The Chief Prelate made this request in a letter to President Maithripala Sirisena. The Mahanayake thero believes this would pave the way to take a decision that will be in accordance with the constitution and protect the political integrity of the country. The Chief Prelate pointed out that many parties and groups holding various views as well as the local and international community have expressed their concern about the state of anarchy that the country has fallen into. The Mahnayake thero asserts that as the first citizen of the country it is the responsibility of the president to protect and prevent the collapse of state institutions, departments and all other sectors including the daily life of citizens.
