Parliamentary proceedings were illegal - UPFA

Colombo (News 1st) - A press briefing was convened by members of the UPFA, following the adjournment of parliament. Minister Dinesh Gunawardena addressing the briefing stated that the mace of Parliament was taken away by the sergeant at arms during the proceedings of the parliament and that, the Parliamentary activities after the mace was removed were not valid. Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva states that no person, not even the executive President has the power to accept the legality of the illegal function that took place in parliament today (Nov 14) and that as parliamentarians, they request the president to dismiss all proceedings that took place following the speakers' illegal actions. Minister Wimal Weerawansa stated that when he saw Ranil Wickremesinghe seated, for a moment he had a feeling that Rohana Wijeweera was reborn. He went on to state that in his opinion, Vijitha Herath and Anura Kumara Dissanayake had commenced a deadly fight to appoint Rohana Wijeweera as the Prime Minister. He went on stating that ambassadors representing western nations and Europe are closely monitoring the implementation of orders given to Vijitha Herath and Sumanthiram. He stated that this is all part of a grand conspiracy. Minister Weerawanse added that the speaker took the vote from the outlook and that they claimed a majority.  He stated that they are fed up of the drama and that they need an election.
