Colombo (News1st) - UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe convened a media briefing this evening (Nov 13) soon after the Supreme Court issued an interim order against the dissolution of Parliament.
Addressing the media Wickremesinghe described the Supreme Court order as a victory for the people's mandate and a reaffirmation of the constitution. He appreciated the Supreme Court judges for taking such a decision to inform everyone that you cannot abuse the constitution. While noting that they will present facts before the court on the allocated dates, the UNP leader stated that they would not allow anyone to interpret the constitution to suit their own needs.
While noting that this is just the victory of one battle, Wickremesinghe stated that they should win the war as well. He reiterated that the UNP will showcase their majority in parliament tomorrow when it convenes inline with the orders issued by the President.
The UNP leader called on all state sector officials to work in accordance with the constitution and the Supreme Court's decision. While noting that it is the Speaker of Parliament who is vested with the responsibilities of carrying out the activities of parliament, Wickremesinghe added that the Police should meet with the Speaker to discuss the actions that need to be taken.
