A vehicle rally against the PM

Colombo (News1st): The UNP held a vehicle rally to protest the appointment of the new Prime Minister and to call on authorities to summon Parliament immediately. It began from the Galle Face and proceeded towards the Independence square. The protest that headed towards Colpetty from Galle Face, proceeded in front of the Temple trees amidst the salutation of UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and several other party seniors. Addressing the rally,  General Secretary of the UNP Akila Viraj Kariyawasam called on the president not to spread lies stating that they have the majority of 113 in Parliament. He requested that parliament be summoned immediately and noted that they will fight until they send the illegal Prime Minister home. Many other parliamentarians including Ravi Karunanayake and Palitha Thewarapperuma echoed the sentiments of Kariyawasam. The vehicular protest ended near the Colombo Municipal Council premises and then proceeded to the Independence square. Here the leaders of the United National Party presented floral tributes to the statue of late Prime Minister D.S. Senanayake. Speaking to the media UNP MP Rajitha Senaratne stated that the president whom they brought to enjoy the remaining freedom took it away from them. He said even though he fled from this battle they won't. MP Senaratne vowed to keep fighting until they get the freedom that the President promised.
