President meets Sampanthan at Deepavali celebrations

Colombo (News1st): President Maithripala Sirisena held discussions with Leader of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) R. Sampanthan yesterday (November 05). Deepavali celebrations at the Presidential Secretariat were held last evening, with the participation of the leader of the TNA R.Sampanthan, Leader of the EPDP Douglas Devananda, and Angajan Ramanathan upon an invitation extended by President Maithripala Sirisena. Discussions between the president and the leader of the opposition took place following the celebrations. Speaking to the media the leader of the TNA stated that they did not discuss many things. He added that he has attended all the Deepavali celebrations held each year and every time he attended these celebrations he speaks about national issues. Sampanthan noted that his objective is to solve these issues before the next Deepavali, but he stated that he hasn’t received the solution yet. Sampanthan noted that the tamil community has grown suspicious of the changes that have taken place in the political landscape and noted that it is up to the President to make a clear decision.
