'Jana Mahimaya Rally' to take over Parliament roundabout tomorrow

COLOMBO (News 1st) - At a media briefing convened by the representatives of the government today (November 04) details on the Jana Mahimaya rally were -discussed. UPFA Member of parliament Mahindananda Aluthgamage said that the rally will begin from the parliamentary roundabout at 12 noon tomorrow. Aluthgamage said that there will be a heavy traffic congestion from 12 noon to 6 p.m but added that they hope to conduct the rally in a manner that would not inconvenience the public. Also expressing views UPFA MP Dilan Perera said that during the course of last week the speaker was in parliament exercising his powers in an improper manner. He continued to say that at a time when parliament was prorogued the doors of the parliamentary room were opened and representatives of the UNP held media briefings from there. Dilan Perera added that on the morning of the 5th the new Prime Minister will assume his duties at his office at the parliamentary complex and attend the Jana Mahimaya rally along with the new leader of the house Dinesh Gunawardena and President Maithripala Sirisena. UPFA MP Susil Premajayantha said that the United National Front has at no point mentioned that they have the mandate of the people. Premajayantha said that the final election in which the people's mandate could be measured was the local government elections held earlier this year.  He added that at that election the SLPP the Sri Lanka Freedom party and the United Peoples Freedom Alliance obtained 56% of the vote. "Do not obstruct the people's mandate" reiterated MP Susil Premajayantha.
