COLOMBO (News 1st) – Two Sri Lankans arriving at the country from Singapore were arrested at the BIA by customs officials for attempting to smuggle cigarettes into the country.

Custom officials stated that the suspects had concealed 14,500 cigarettes and 72 cartons stashed in their luggage.

The value of the contraband is estimated at Rs. 725,000

The duo were fined Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 10,000 and were thereafter released.
