Six spill gates of the Weheragala reservoir opened

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Six spill gates of the Weheragala reservoir have been opened owing to heavy rainfall. Speaking to News 1st, the Irrigation Engineer for Tissamaharama, Amila Shirantha said that the gates were opened by 8 inches, releasing about 2600 Cubic Feet of water into the Menik River, every second. He further warned that due to this situation the residents living along the Menik river in Kataragama and Sellakataragama should take necessary precautions. He also added that soon the Udawalawa tank would also exceed its capacity.
