Shooting in Urubokka claims a life (UPDATE)

COLOMBO (News 1st) - One person was killed in a shooting that took place in Dahampahala Road, Urubokka, Matara today (October 22). The incident took place at around 8.45 in the morning. Police say that the victim was shot while travelling on his motorcycle by a gunman who was also on another motorcycle. Our correspondent said the victim was taken to the hospital by Urubokka Police after the residents informed the Police about the incident. The victim later succumbed to his injuries. According to the Police Media Spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara, the deceased has been identified as Marapulige Sumudu Chaminda Dayaratne, a 44-year-old officer serving at the Divisional Secretariat in Pasgoda. He was a resident of Walasmulla, Akurassa and a father of two. The remains are laid at the Heegoda Hospital while further investigations are carried out by the Urubokka Police.
