Colombo (News 1st) - Attending a UNP public meeting in Bandaragama State Minister of Power and Renewable Energy Ajith P. Perera commented on the removal of former Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranaike. He noted that she was forcefully removed using an illegal procedure following a case filed by then Minister Wimal Weerawansa, under the previous regime. The state Minister went on to claim that the previous regime appointed judges as they wanted and that judgment were written at the Presidents house and handed over to the courts. He also stated that the previous rulers controlled the Attorney Generals Department from the Presidential Secretariat and that the Police lost their independence. Ajith P. Perera states that Mahinda Rajapaksa who previously ruled in such a manner is now ironically talking about the independence of the judiciary.
