STF protection for selected prisons across country

Colombo (News 1st) - Police Special Task Force Commandant, Senior DIG M. R. Latheef stated that STF protection will be provided to selected prisons in the country. This measure has been taken following reports claiming that various irregularities were taking place in prisons with the intervention of prison officers. Thereby, the Angunakolapelessa Prison will come under STF protection starting from today (October 17). The STF is expected to screen visitors to prisons and also inspect the premises and the surrounding areas. Senior DIG M.R.Latheef said STF protection is to be provided to the Welikada Prison in the near future and that further action will be deployed as per the request of the Justice Ministry.
