Colombo (News1st): 18-year-old Hasini Ambalangodage commenced her Youth Olympic Games journey in Buenos Aires to a solid start, registering a win in her 1st badminton match in Argentina. The scores read 21/14, 21/16 in favour of the Sri Lankan as she won the game in straight sets.
She was unable to replicate her success in the second match as she faced a straight set defeat at the hands of Phittayaporn Chaiwan of Thailand.
Meanwhile, Akalanka Peiris finished with a World standing of 10th in the Men’s 50m Backstroke event among 26 top class swimmers. The Men’s 50m backstroke event was Akalanka’s second stint at this year’s Games, the first being the 100m Backstroke where he finished 16th after exiting in the semifinals.
