COLOMBO (News 1st) – The current demand of over 100,000 metric tonnes for the local market cannot be met by the existing level of production.

Chairman of the Coconut Cultivation Board, Kapila Yakandawala said that steps have been taken to increase the local production of coconut oil by 50%. Thus, reducing the reliance on imported coconut oil.

Yakandawala raised concerns of quality and hygiene issues in the imported oil.
