22,000 illegal cigarettes taken into custody in Beruwala

Colombo (News 1st) - A 29-year-old suspect in the possession of a stock of illegal cigarettes was arrested in Beruwela. The suspect is a resident of Beruwela China Fort and is due to be produced before the Kalutara Magistrate's Court today (September 29). The CID division in Beruwala has taken into custody the 22,000 cigarettes worth Rs. 3 Mn, that had been smuggled into the country by the suspect. Police said that the stock of cigarettes was discovered when a van was halted and investigated based on a tip-off received.
