Negotiations underway to increase estate sector public pay

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Minister of Labour and Trade Union Affairs, Raveendra Samaraweera states that negotiations are currently underway between estate workers and their employers to increase daily wages. The Minister noted that he would intervene in the issue through a committee if discussions between the estate workers and employers fail. Negotiations began between estate workers and employers following a protest held by estate workers in Thalawakale demanding a daily wage of Rs. 1000.
