Heavy rainfall of 100 mm to be expected islandwide today

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Several regions experienced thundershowers accompanied by rain during the early hours today (September 25). The Meteorology Department said several areas continue to experience heavy rainfall. Rainfall experienced in the recent hours:  Colombo - 79.4 mm Badulla - 45.9 mm Jaffna - 33.2 mm Ratmalana - 30.2 mm. The Department added that there may be temporary localised strong winds during these thundershowers. The public are kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize the damages caused by the adverse weather. Rainfall exceeding 100 mm can be expected in the Uva, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and Central provinces while showers or thundershowers can be expected in the Colombo, Kalutara, Galle and Matara Districts. According to the Director of the Department of Meteorology Athula Karunanayake, many parts of the island will experience rainfall exceeding 100 mm today (September 25).
