Increase in wholesale prices of sugar amended to Rs. 11

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Chairman of the Sugar Importers' Association, P. M. Abeysekara stated that the increased wholesale price of sugar by Rs. 15 was brought down to Rs. 11.  Accordingly, the wholesale price of a kg of sugar will be Rs 101. Issuing an advisory on the 19th of this month, the Ministry of Finance confirmed that despite the increase in taxes imposed on sugar prices that the retail prices would remain unchanged. The Ministry also said that even after a tax of Rs.42 been imposed on a kilogram of Sugar that the importers still gain profits.
