Tense situation at the Atannagalle DCC meeting once again

Colombo (News1st): A debate was held during the Attanagalla Divisional Development Committee meeting today (September 14). Although the previous meeting held on the 13th of last month, was halted as journalists were instructed to leave the premises, journalists were able to cover today's meeting without any hindrance. There was a debate on the delayed development projects during the proceedings. Chairman of the Attanagalla Pradeshiya Sabha Priyantha Pushpakumara ( of the SLPP) stated that they took over the responsibility of completing 91 projects by the 15th of December. He added that they will complete them on the due date without an issue. Co-chair of the development committee Chandrasoma Saranalal stated that they have allocated around Rs. 400 million to implement development projects for the people of Attanagalla. He added that he proposed 92 projects only after consulting with the Chairman and he had handed these over to the Ministry of National Policies on the 3rd of July, it has been 3 months and there is no progress to be seen. Saranalal stated steps are being taken to halt the development activities of the government. This sparked a debate among the members of the panel and led to a tense situation. Former President Chandrika Kumaranatunga was also present at the occasion and she also voiced her concerns regarding the actions of the pradeshiya sabha members.
