Nilushiya Mary granted university entrance after News1st expose

Colombo (News1st): Nilushiya Mary, a resident of Walapane, who was deprived of university education due to the irresponsible nature of certain government officials, has been served justice. This matter was reported by News1st, and received the attention of Minister of Higher Education & Cultural Affairs, (Dr.) Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe. Nilushiya Mary a commerce student, was ranked 34th in the Nuwara Eliya district at the Advance Level examination in 2017. She was informed through a letter, that she had been selected to the University of Kelaniya, by the University Grants Commision. However, the letter in question was delivered by the area postman, days after the due date for submissions. The Gammadda team was informed of this matter by the Walapane police, to whom Nilushiya has lodged a complaint regarding the injustice she faced. After this matter was reported, Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe together with officials from the University Grants Commision, met with Nilushiya to inquire further details. Minister (Dr.) Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe stated that the child has suffered a huge injustice, and rectifying it is their responsibility. He added that this student will enter university next week, and they will do everything possible to provide her with a university education.
