Colombo (News1st) – A Sri Lankan employed by a Sydney based university was arrested by counter-terrorism officers last evening (August 30) over terror charges in Australia. The arrest was made after receiving a tip-off from a worker at the university.
Police allege Mohamed Nizamdeen, who is on a student visa and employed as a contractor at the University of New South Wales, was in possession of a document used in preparation for a terrorism offence. Australian Federal Police allege, based on the documents, he is affiliated with ISIS.
The Sri Lankan national was taken to the Maroubra Police Station and charged with collecting or making a document which is connected with preparation for, the engagement of a person in, or assistance in a terrorist act.
