Summons for Gotabaya Rajapaksa and 06 others

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Notice was issued on Former Secretary of Defence Gotabaya Rajapaksa and six others to appear before the Permanent High Court Trial at Bar on the 10th of September with regard to the misappropriation of funds over the constructions of the D.A.Rajapaksa Museum and Memorial. The Attorney General who took in to account the report produced by the Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division over the alleged misappropriation of funds, under the approval of the Chief Justice filed indictments at the Permanent High Court Trial at Bar on the 24th of this month. The case was filed against Former Secretary of Defence Gotabaya Rajapaksa and six others including the Chairman of the Land Reclamation and Development Corporation Prasad Harshan De Silva and Former General Manager of the Corporation Badhra Udulawathie Kamaladasa. This is the second case filed at the newly formed Permanent High Court Trial at Bar. It must be noted that in the recent past, several judges recused themselves in connection to cases filed against Gotabaya Rajapaksa. Justice Priyantha Jayawardena recused himself from hearing the Fundamental Rights application filed by former defense secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa over irregularities said to have taken place with regard to Avant Garde, MIG fighter aircraft and the sale of Lanka Hospital shares. Earlier, High Court Judges Eva Wanasundara and Sarath De Abrew who considered the FR petition issuing an order preventing the arrest of Gotabaya Rajapaksa until the petition was being examined also recused themselves. Justice Buwaneka Aluwiharaya who was also part of the three-member bench recused himself from considering the petition.
