Colombo (News 1st) - The proposal produced before Parliament to approve the salary of the Auditor General, was withdrawn by Leader of the House, Minister Lakshman Kiriella on Thursday (Aug 23rd).
JVP member of parliament, Bimal Rathnayake stated that item no. 27 of the agenda for Thursday was pertaining to the salary for Auditor General Gamini Wijesinghe. Rathnayake stated that it has been delayed for more than three years and called on the Leader of the House to explain why it was withdrawn from the agenda.
The leader of the House, Minister Lakshman Kiriella stated that the matter will be discussed at the Party Leaders meeting.
Meanwhile, Chief Opposition Whip, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, stated that the Auditor General has built a strong opinion in society about financial irregularities and that it quite suspicious that his benefits and salary increments are been slashed to weaken him in fulfilling his responsibilities.
