Colombo (News1st) -  The Attanagalla Divisional Coordinating Committee meeting had to be halted midway into proceeding on Monday (Aug 13th). The meeting was halted as the joint chairperson of the committee, former president Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge instructed journalists to leave the premises. The Attanagalla Divisional Coordinating Committee convened under the auspices of its joint chairpersons, former president Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga and Western Provincial Councillor Chandrasoma Saranalal. Moments after the beginning of the meeting, the former president Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge questioned if the media had been invited to the meeting. A tense situation occurred as the former president, divisional secretary, politicians and journalists that were present at the occasion began to make their case on the media presence. The situation escalated when members of the opposition began to point out that the catering company that had been contracted to provide refreshments to the DCC meeting was employing a child labourer. According to our correspondent, the child in question was the son of the owner of the institution supplying the food. Given the situation that transpired, the Former President took measures to adjourn the Coordination Committee until the 14th of September. (WATCH VIDEO FOR MORE)
